Emtel, in partnership with South African firm NEC XON, has launched the Emtel Cloud Platform, a new solution aimed at strengthening Mauritius’s digital landscape. The platform is the country’s first locally designed and hosted cloud infrastructure, offering Mauritian businesses secure data storage and compliance with local regulations. The official launch event took place on Thursday, 21st August, at the J&J Auditorium in Phoenix.

The ceremony was attended by key figures, including the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, NEC XON’s General Manager for South Africa, John Dewar, and Emtel’s CEO, Kresh Goomany.

According to Goomany, the platform marks a significant milestone for Mauritius’s ICT sector. It eliminates the need for local businesses to rely on international cloud services, which are often hosted outside the country.

A key feature of the Emtel Cloud Platform is its geographical redundancy, ensuring service continuity and greater resilience in the event of an incident.

The service is designed to cater to a wide range of clients, from large corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public institutions. CEO Kresh Goomany stated that the platform provides a “reliable, secure, and locally compliant tool” that allows businesses to operate with confidence, knowing their critical data is protected within a robust and accessible environment.

The platform is also part of a wider regional strategy, leveraging Emtel’s high-performance connectivity that links Mauritius to neighbouring islands like Reunion and Madagascar, as well as the African continent.

This initiative solidifies Emtel’s commitment to reinforcing the local digital ecosystem and providing solutions tailored to both Mauritian and regional businesses.
