7th Police Officer Arrested as Superintendent Apprehended in Corruption Probe
An assistant superintendent of police, Rajcoomar Seewoo, was arrested on the 21st August after a five-hour interrogation at the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) as part of a corruption investigation into the police force’s reward money scheme. The arrest brings the total number of officers detained in the widening scandal to seven, including two assistant commissioners of police.
Seewoo, a high-profile officer known for his work leading specialised units, was taken into custody before being transferred to the Curepipe police station.
His arrest is the latest development in the ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct involving “reward money” within the police force.
The senior officer has long been considered a protégé of former Police Commissioners, including Mario Nobin and Anil Kumar Dip, with two of his promotions reportedly causing controversy within the force.
The “Reward Money” affair has so far led to the arrests of seven officers, namely: Assistant Commissioners of Police Lilram Deal and Dunraz Gangadin, Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai, Assistant Superintendent of Police Faaraz Mooniaruth, ASP Seewoo, and Sergeants Yeshdeo Seeboruth and Yusuf Ali Hossen. Sergeant Hossen is believed to be a close associate of Superintendent Jagai.
