Mauritius welcomed a record 129,206 tourists in July 2025, marking a 10.2% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the latest figures released by Statistics Mauritius. The island nation saw 11,982 more visitors than in July 2024, when arrivals stood at 117,224.

This strong performance has pushed total tourist numbers for the first seven months of 2025 to 788,115—a rise of 25,342 compared to the 762,773 recorded in the same period last year.

Tourism Minister Hails “Unprecedented” Off-Season Boom

The Minister of Tourism expressed optimism over the sustained growth trend since April, calling the July figures “exceptional for the low season.”

“This is the first time we’ve experienced such a strong off-peak period. With 129,206 visitors, July’s numbers are nearly on par with peak season months—surpassing November 2024 and only slightly below October 2024,” he said. “We hope this upward trend continues.”

Key Markets Show Significant Growth

Leading the surge were double-digit increases from key markets:

  • South Africa: +53.6%
  • India: +37.2%
  • Germany: +13.9%
  • France: +4.1%

For the January-July period, Indian arrivals soared by 31.5%, reinforcing the market’s growing importance.

Tourism Earnings Jump by 25.9% in June

Separate data from the Bank of Mauritius revealed a sharp rise in tourism revenue, with June 2025 earnings hitting Rs 6.95 billion—up Rs 1.4 billion (25.9%) from June 2024’s Rs 5.5 billion.

Cumulative earnings for the first half of 2025 reached Rs 47.4 billion, a 6.8% increase over the Rs 44.4 billion recorded in the same period last year.

The figures underscore Mauritius’s strengthening recovery as it capitalises on growing demand from traditional and emerging tourist markets.
