3 Dreams: Recycled Colored Glass Art, Wellness and Expanding Globally
Simone Rossi Doria aims to achieve physical and mental well-being through two main areas: Ayurvedic medicine and handcrafted stained glass lamps made from recycled colored glass. He believes there is a connection between these two fields—the ancient Indian healing practice and the vibrant energy of the recycled glass, which he sources from Rajasthan, India. These handmade lamps are designed to promote well-being and are intended for both Mauritian and international audiences.
Originally from Cattolica, Italy, Rossi Doria is 58 years old. He studied economics and business in Italy but was drawn to Ayurvedic medicine, which he learned in Mumbai at the Ayushakti clinic under Drs. Pankaj and Smita Naram.
His wife, also Italian, has over 30 years of experience in high fashion as a chief modeler for brands like Moschino, Iceberg, and Marc Jacobs.
The couple first visited Mauritius in 2015 for a family experience and to let their son finish secondary school at Le Bocage International School in Moka.
They immediately fell in love with the island’s vibrant colors and natural beauty, which inspired Rossi Doria. He felt the intense green mountains, sugarcane fields, and the blue ocean deeply affected his sense of calm.
In 2016, they moved to Mauritius full-time, bringing their Ayurvedic practice and lamp design business with them. Rossi Doria’s work involves collaborating with 28 Ayurvedic centers in Italy, offering consultations focused on diet and lifestyle for holistic wellness.
His idea to create and sell colorful recycled glass lamps originated during his travels in India over the past 30 years. Fascinated by Rajasthan, Kerala, and Gujarat’s vibrant colors, he wanted to craft unique lamps that harness this energetic power.
The lamps are designed in Italy, in Saint Marin and Flic-en-Flac, while their production takes place in Rajasthan. Local women artisans hand-apply mosaics to the glass, making each piece one-of-a-kind and infused with positive energy.
Color plays a vital role in his philosophy. Rossi Doria explains that colors are more than visual—they send vibrational signals that influence our physical, emotional, and mental states. Light, wall colors, and textiles all contribute to creating a calming, welcoming environment that enhances well-being.
Raw materials are easily accessible in India, mostly recycled, and the manufacturing process varies depending on the complexity of the design, with some lamps taking up to two days to produce.
His European offices are in Saint-Marin and the Netherlands, and his lamps are sold across Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and other countries.
He participated in major European trade shows like Maison & Objet in Paris, Homi in Milan, and Trendz in Amsterdam, with plans to attend Ambiente in Frankfurt and Intergift in Madrid soon.
After settling in Mauritius, Rossi Doria’s wife received a significant offer from the Mauritius Textile Company, where she had worked for over six years.
She now runs a fashion studio in Flic-en-Flac, working remotely for international fashion brands. Their 25-year-old son, passionate about kitesurfing, is a certified instructor in Mauritius, and also enjoys cooking, digital marketing, and AI, helping his father’s business.
Looking ahead, Rossi Doria is expanding his distribution in Mauritius, with outlets at Tribeca, Super U Grand Baie, Super U Cap Tamarin, and a Flic-en-Flac boutique.
He has a distributor in Réunion and plans to grow into South Africa and Dubai. Despite his travels, he admitted that Mauritius feels like home, and he spends at least four months a year in Italy managing his activities and attending international trade shows.
His future plans include broadening the market for his lamps across several countries. His biggest dream is to open an Ayurvedic wellness center in Mauritius, featuring a hotel, restaurant, and large park.
This facility would host groups of 20 visitors from Europe every 12 days, offering authentic Ayurvedic therapies, personalized diets, wellness routines, and excursions around the island’s natural beauty.
Rossi Doria also hopes to collaborate with the Mauritian Ministry of Health to develop training programs for local doctors. These would focus on prevention of diseases like diabetes through diet and lifestyle modifications tailored to local habits.
