Chilli Theft Turns Deadly: 2nd Body Found, Mystery Deepens
A chilli theft case that has shaken the Flacq region took a darker turn on Saturday, August 2, when a second body was discovered just hours after the violent death of Sébastien Saumou.
Saumou, suspected of trying to steal chillies, died around 4 p.m. on Saturday 2nd August after being severely beaten in a field.
The attack happened at a farm owned by Danraj Ram, who has since been arrested and charged with murder. Ram’s son, a police officer, was also questioned and later released on bail.
Later that same afternoon, a second body was found near a river, only a few hundred meters from the scene of the assault.
According to initial reports, the victim is believed to be a man known by the initials C.C., who was reportedly Saumou’s best friend.
No official confirmation has been given that C.C. was at the scene of the beating, but his close relationship with Saumou and the location of his body have raised serious concerns.
Preliminary findings indicate that C.C.’s body showed no visible signs of injury. However, an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
Adding to the mystery, a third person was reportedly admitted to intensive care on the same day, according to a l’Express independent source.
No details have been released about this person’s identity or the reason for their hospitalization.
At this stage, police have not officially linked these three incidents. Still, the timing, location, and connection between the individuals have left many in the community uneasy.
In Riche-Mare, residents are demanding answers. “Two friends die on the same day, and a third person ends up in intensive care? This can’t be a coincidence. We need to know the truth,” said one local resident.
Authorities have so far remained silent on the second death and the hospitalization case, but public pressure is growing for a full investigation into this troubling sequence of events.
