Mauritius Weather Alert: 70 km/h Cold Winds and Waves Until August 6
A strong waves warning remains in effect for Mauritius until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6. This follows a passing cold front earlier today, with a high-pressure system located south-west of the Mascarene Islands bringing windy and relatively cold conditions to the region.
The weather will mostly be cloudy, with intermittent rain mainly affecting the southern half of the island and higher elevations.
Foggy conditions are possible in the hills. Light rain may continue in the higher areas through the day. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to be fair.
Temperatures will be slightly below average, ranging from 18 to 21°C on the central plateau and 23 to 26°C along the coast.
The minimum temperatures will be between 14 and 16°C in the highlands and 18 to 20°C in coastal areas.
Winds will come from the south at speeds of 25 to 35 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h in some areas.
Caution is advised during high-altitude maneuvers and on the roads due to crosswinds.
The sea will gradually become very rough, with wave heights reaching around 4 meters. Waves may break on low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tide on the western and southern coasts.
Tide times:
High tides: 11:51 and 21:57
- Low tides: 04:24 and 17:02
Mariners, fishermen, and beachgoers are strongly advised to avoid going to sea and stay away from beaches for safety.
Sunrise is at 6:38 a.m., and sunset is at 5:54 p.m. The atmospheric pressure at 4:00 a.m. was 1019 hectopascals.
