After 2 Years in the Shadows, MTC Roars Back to Life
On Saturday, August 2, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam visited Champ de Mars to watch the Duchess of York Cup horse race, accompanied by his wife, Veena Ramgoolam. During his visit, he commented on the resumption of horse racing by the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC).
Ramgoolam criticized the previous government, stating, “The massacre caused by the former government to protect one person destroyed the MTC.”
He also noted that the event drew a large crowd at Champ de Mars and expressed his intention to return.
“I used to watch training sessions when my father was Prime Minister… I am a big fan of horse racing,” he added.
Upon their arrival, Navin Ramgoolam and his wife were welcomed by Gavin Glover, Attorney General, and Soon Gujadhur.
This event marked the MTC’s return to organizing horse races after two years of absence.
