Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Dunraz Gangadin, 62, has filed a complaint at Vacoas police station, alleging intimidation following incidents at the Port-Louis court last Friday, 25th July.

In his statement, ACP Gangadin said he was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) on July 24, as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation. He was formally charged the next day and remains in police custody.

Upon arriving at the Pope Hennessy courthouse, ACP Gangadin reported being surrounded by members of the press broadcasting his arrival live on social media.

Among those present were activist Bruneau Laurette and Darren Seedeeal (Darren Activist), both involved in separate legal cases.

The officer explained he is a witness in a case against Darren Seedeeal, who is scheduled for trial on August 20 for alleged ICTA violations related to drug trafficking.

During the court visit, Laurette reportedly publicly accused ACP Gangadin of leading a corrupt police unit involved in a “setup” to plant drugs on individuals, including himself and Vimen Sabapati.

According to the complaint, while waiting in the courtroom, lawyer Akil Bissessur—against whom ACP Gangadin has previously filed two complaints for intimidation—entered the room, stared at him, and allegedly made threatening remarks.

ACP Gangadin said he felt threatened and humiliated by these comments, which he believes were meant to pressure him before future court appearances at the New Court House.

He also stated he will not be intimidated by repeated acts of pressure from Laurette, Bissessur, or others.

An investigation by police has been launched into these allegations.
