Former Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Dip purchased a Porsche Macan for Rs 415,140. This is notable because the luxury model typically costs over Rs 6 million.

The issue was raised in a parliamentary question by Ludovic Caserne, MP for Port-Louis North and Montagne Longue.

Caserne inquired about the vehicles used by Dip during his tenure from August 3, 2021, to November 12, 2024.

The question highlighted that, after his retirement on November 13, 2024, Dip acquired a Porsche Macan from the police’s VIP fleet for a surprisingly low price.

In response, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam explained that Dip had access to seven police vehicles during his term.

He confirmed that an investigation is underway into how these vehicles were used but did not provide further details.

The purchase of the Porsche Macan is the most controversial aspect of this case. Officially, the government did not acquire any vehicle solely for Dip’s personal use.

However, a 2021 report from the Pay Research Bureau indicated that, upon retirement, Dip had the option to choose between two benefits:

-Either a government vehicle valued for official and personal use, or;

-A 100% customs duty exemption for buying a vehicle up to 2,000 cc, along with allowances.

Dip chose the second option and bought the Porsche Macan for Rs 415,140, which was delivered to him on November 16, 2024.
