Rs 66.8 Million Airport Parking Contract Under Investigation Amid Concerns
Member of Parliament Tony Apollon raised concerns with the Prime Minister about the airport’s parking facilities. In response, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam provided details on the current parking situation.
He stated that the airport has a total of 1,562 parking spaces: 892 at the new terminal and 670 at the old terminal.
Of these, 1,207 are open to the public, while 355 are reserved for airport stakeholders.
A survey conducted in March 2025 found that 35% of parking spots were occupied by car rental agencies, limiting access for travelers, especially during peak hours.
To address this issue, since May, 144 parking spaces at the old terminal have been allocated to rental agencies, freeing up space at the new terminal.
No complaints have been reported since this change. Regarding future expansion, the Prime Minister confirmed that no additional infrastructure is planned, as current facilities are deemed sufficient. Proper signage has already been installed to guide users.
However, concerns remain over a Rs 66.8 million parking management contract awarded to VDTEC Distributors Ltd.
The contract is under investigation due to suspicions of conflict of interest. It is alleged that a member of the evaluation committee may also be involved in certifying the work. The case has been referred to the Financial Crimes Commission for further scrutiny.
