Rs 5,000 Fine for Illegal Waste Dumping, Identified through Video

On July 23, 2025, a video posted on social media alerted authorities to an illegal dumping incident. The footage shows individuals in a van dumping waste, including electronic waste, on a site in Riche-Terre.

In response, environmental police acted quickly. On July 24, they traced the activity to a 42-year-old resident of Vallée-Pitot.

He was fined Rs 5,000, with a deadline to pay by August 13.

Additionally, authorities issued a notice requiring him to remove the waste within 24 hours, or face penalties under Article 128(1) of the Environment Act 2024.

The man complied and has already cleaned up the site.
