Angus Road Case: PM Affirms, “No Cover-Up. No One Will Be Spared.”
Premier Minister Navin Ramgoolam has assured that there is no cover-up in the ongoing investigation by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) into the Angus Road case. He emphasized, “No cover-up. Nobody will be spared. The truth must come out.”
Ramgoolam made these remarks during the Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) at the National Assembly on Tuesday, July 29.
The question was posed by opposition MP Roshan Jhummun, who inquired about allegations involving former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Kobita Jugnauth concerning property transactions on Angus Road, Vacoas.
The Prime Minister responded that he could not provide further details because the investigation is still active with the FCC.
When asked if there were attempts to shut down the probe, Ramgoolam confirmed there were.
He explained that in June 2014, the Attorney General’s office requested mutual legal assistance from the UK authorities to trace the money involved in the case.
However, after the coalition led by the Social Socialist Movement (MSM) came to power in December 2014, the then-Attorney General Ravi Yerrigadoo advised in early 2015 that the government no longer wished to pursue this legal assistance.
Ramgoolam called this a clear interference in the investigation. He expressed concern that crucial international cooperation was deliberately blocked and viewed this as a sign of how politically sensitive issues had been mishandled over the past decade by the MSM-led government.
Instead of seeking the truth, he said, measures had been taken to hinder or halt investigations.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and the proper functioning of the justice system.
Asked by Jhummun if the investigation would produce clear and tangible results, Ramgoolam gave an unequivocal assurance: “I can give a 100% guarantee that it will. No cover-up. Nobody will be spared. The truth will prevail.”
