On July 23, Minister of Health Anil Bachoo highlighted the critical role of early cancer detection during the opening of new diagnostic services at the National Cancer Center in Vacoas-Phoenix. He stated that according to a visiting foreign expert, 85% of cancer cases can be cured if diagnosed and treated early.

Minister Bachoo called the introduction of advanced diagnostic tools a “historic moment in the fight against cancer.”

He explained that international specialists have noted many patients are sent abroad for treatment only at advanced stages of the disease, when effective intervention is no longer possible.

The new services now available at the center include high-dose positron emission tomography (PET/TDM), total body PET/TDM, and high-dose brachytherapy (HDR).

These technologies will enable doctors to diagnose cancer more quickly and monitor its progression more accurately, allowing for earlier and more effective treatment.

Additionally, Minister Bachoo expressed concern over reports that a small number of doctors have damaged the reputation of the medical profession through rude behavior toward cancer patients.

He reminded healthcare professionals that medicine is a service-based and altruistic profession, especially for vulnerable patients.
