Mauritius’s Minister of Health and Well-being, Anil Kumar Bachoo, has urged the private sector to increase investment in healthcare services on the island. His appeal was made during the official opening of the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) Rehabilitation Center on July 18 in Port-Louis.

The event was attended by MIOT International’s General Director, Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, along with other medical sector representatives.

The new center is equipped with advanced technology and offers a wide range of rehabilitation services.

It adopts an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, staffed by highly qualified professionals, to ensure continuous, quality care for patients.

During his speech, Minister Bachoo highlighted that MIOT International, based in India, is a trusted healthcare partner for Mauritian residents.

He noted that many Mauritian patients have traveled to MIOT in India for complex, specialized treatments over the years.

Bachoo emphasized that the need for closer, ongoing medical follow-up led to the establishment of this comprehensive rehabilitation center in Mauritius.

He also pointed out that the center’s telemedicine services enable patients to consult with specialists in Chennai, India, in real time, for immediate diagnosis and advice.

Dr. Mohandas explained that the center provides rehabilitation care for all patient types, with particular expertise in treating neurological conditions such as brain tumors and cancers.

He added that strong demand from Mauritian patients motivated MIOT to open this facility locally.
