Mauritius and India Unite: 3 Key Steps to Boost Science & Tech
Mauritius is set to develop a national science and technology strategy with India’s help. The government’s Cabinet approved a plan for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST). This partnership aims to support Mauritius in shaping its approach to scientific research and technological development.
Under the agreement, experts from both sides will work together to create a comprehensive National Science and Technology Strategy.
Indian officials will also provide guidance to help establish a Science and Technology Directorate in Mauritius, defining its mission and responsibilities.
A National Science and Technology Strategy outlines how a country promotes research and innovation to meet national goals.
It typically involves setting priorities, encouraging collaboration, and strengthening resources—both human and material—to boost competitiveness and address key challenges.
Mauritius’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Kaviraj Sukon, has emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and business during recent public statements.
Additionally, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has supported Mauritius’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) in developing national guidelines to integrate AI into university teaching and learning processes.
Given India’s advanced use of AI for social development, economic growth, and technological progress, this partnership promises significant benefits for Mauritius’s future growth and innovation.
