Mauritius Tourism Surges 14.4% in First Half of July 2025

Mauritius saw a notable rise in tourist arrivals during the first half of July 2025. The island welcomed 7,944 more visitors than during the same period in 2024, representing a 14.4% increase. Specifically, from July 1 to July 15, 2025, Mauritius received 63,275 tourists, compared to 55,331 during the same dates in 2024, according to the latest figures published by Statistics Mauritius on Wednesday.

Looking at the broader picture, from January 1 to July 15, 2025, total tourist arrivals reached 722,184.

This is an increase of 21,304 visitors compared to the 700,880 arrivals recorded during the same period in 2024.

Overall, this reflects a 3.0% growth in tourist numbers for the first half of the year.

Tourism Minister Richard Duval pointed out that the number of arrivals has been steadily increasing since April 2025.

He expressed satisfaction that this growth is occurring even during what is traditionally a low season for tourism.

Minister Richard Duval explained, “This proves that the tourism sector is dynamic and adaptable. It evolves based on visitors’ preferences and weather conditions. I will share more details soon, but for now, it’s clear that both the number of arrivals and the revenue generated from tourism are rising.”

A key factor behind this positive trend is the significant increase in tourists from South Africa. During the first half of July, arrivals from South Africa jumped by 74.3%.

Mauritius received 7,452 visitors from South Africa during this period, compared to 4,275 last year.

Additionally, there were notable increases from other source markets, with arrivals from France rising by 8%, and from Reunion Island by 12.5%.
