Mauritian Banks Win Big at Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2025
Mauritian banks have been recognized internationally at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2025, which honor the world’s top financial institutions. Mauritius received five national awards, highlighting the country’s banking sector’s strength and diversity.
MCB Named Best Bank in Mauritius
The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) was awarded the title of best bank in the country. It serves over 1.2 million clients and holds a dominant market share: 42% of business and SME loans, 31% of personal loans, and 49% of deposits in Mauritian rupees.
MCB’s mobile app, MCB Juice, was updated with enhanced security in 2024 and has more than 673,000 users.
The bank’s Juice Tap contactless payment feature, which works without internet, shows its digital innovation.
MCB also committed Rs 3.8 billion (about USD 90 million) to green loans and received certification for equal salary practices.
Standard Bank: Best Investment Bank and Best for Large Corporates
Standard Bank earned two awards. It played a key role in financing major projects in Africa, including a USD 200 million loan to Kenmare Resources in Mozambique and a €20 million structured finance for Genser Energy in Côte d’Ivoire.
The bank also launched a new corporate segment that raised over USD 100 million in just a few months and adopted robotic automation to improve services.
HSBC Recognized for Corporate Social Responsibility
HSBC Mauritius was honored for its social and environmental efforts. The bank’s leadership team is 67% women, and women make up 58% of staff.
It reduced energy consumption by nearly 13% in the second half of 2024 and aims to source 100% renewable energy by 2030.
HSBC supports education initiatives like the Mauritius Undergraduate Business Case Competition and promotes local climate governance projects.
SBM Bank Awarded for Customer Experience
SBM Bank was praised for its innovative customer service. It launched SBM Tag, a mobile banking app featuring biometric login, real-time information, and compatibility with MauCAS/Swift.
Other apps like SBM Pocket and Amigos target younger users with educational content.
The bank combines cultural events, digital platforms, and 24/7 support to provide a personalized and inclusive banking experience.
These awards showcase Mauritius’s banking sector’s resilience and innovative spirit as of 2025.
