Rs 90 Million Worth of Drugs Found in MK Plane: 2 Airmate staffers Arrested
Police have arrested two employees of Airmate after discovering Rs 90 million worth of drugs hidden in an Air Mauritius plane. The drugs were found in the aircraft’s toilets during a joint operation by the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of Plaisance and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (Cans) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority.
On July 18, early evening, officers inspected Air Mauritius flight MK 852 arriving from South Africa at Plaisance Airport.
They conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and found packages weighing 6.2 kilograms in the toilets, suspected to contain heroin. The drugs were immediately seized.
Following the discovery, authorities launched an investigation. They detained two Airmate employees, who serve as attendants on the aircraft.
During questioning, both admitted to involvement in the drug trafficking. The two employees were formally charged with drug trafficking before Mahébourg court on a provisional basis. The investigation by the anti-drug unit is ongoing.
