Good news for Mauritius’ music scene: teenage brothers Jérémie and Samuel Augustin, both trained through the Mo’Zar organization, have received scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music, one of the world’s top institutions for contemporary music.

This achievement highlighted their talent, hard work, and the support of Mo’Zar, marking a major step in their musical careers.

The brothers were selected after participating in tough auditions at the Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinic, held recently. Samuel, 16, will start a Summer Class at Berklee’s Boston campus in July 2026.

Jérémie, 18, will begin his higher studies there after completing his Higher School Certificate (HSC).

Rigorous Musical Training

This double success confirms the quality of Mo’Zar’s educational program. Founded by the late musician José Thérèse, the organization is dedicated to providing rigorous musical training for talented youth from modest backgrounds.

Mo’Zar offers structured guidance and artistic support, opening new opportunities for a fresh generation of Mauritian artists.

Philippe Thomas, Mo’Zar’s artistic director, expressed pride:

“It’s a great achievement for all of us. These young men show that with support, talent can break all barriers.”

Valérie Lemaire, the organization’s director, also shared her excitement, emphasizing that this success reflects Mo’Zar’s mission.

This news followed another recent achievement: Jazzy Christophe, also trained by Mo’Zar, graduated from Berklee this year.

Jazzy, from Batterie Cassée, is now part of a new wave of Mauritian artists gaining international recognition.

Mo’Zar thanks its partners, sponsors, and teachers whose ongoing support makes these dreams come true.
