BoM Introduces New Rs 200 Polymer Banknotes

The Bank of Mauritius (BoM) has announced the release of new Rs 200 banknotes made from polymer. This update was first communicated in a press release on June 20, under section 35 of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004.

The new Rs 200 notes look similar to the existing paper versions but feature a transparent window and an image of the dodo bird, along with a SwingTM element.

Both the new polymer notes and the current paper notes will circulate together and are equally accepted as legal tender.

The Central Bank is working closely with financial institutions and users of currency to ensure a smooth transition to the new polymer banknotes.

The introduction aims to modernize the currency while maintaining acceptance of all Rs 200 notes in circulation.
