Quatre-Bornes to Get a Modern Urban Terminal in 2 Years

After Port-Louis, the city of Quatre-Bornes is preparing to get an Urban Terminal. The current market area will be replaced by a modern complex that will include shops and apartments. The project is large-scale but has raised concerns among local vegetable traders.

Radio Plus spoke with Jameel Foondun, the deputy mayor of Quatre-Bornes, who offered reassurance. He explained that the Urban Terminal plan will first be presented to city councilors.

“It’s important to understand the project so we can better explain it to everyone involved. The developer will also carry out communication efforts about the project,” he said.

This process will help traders understand how long construction will take, where they will be temporarily relocated, and what measures will be taken to limit disruptions to their activities. Consultations with all affected parties are scheduled in the coming weeks.

The idea for the Urban Terminal was influenced by the success of the Metro Express project, which introduced a concept combining a bus station, commercial spaces, and entertainment areas. The goal is to modernize city centers and give them new energy.

The Victoria Urban Terminal in Port-Louis was officially opened on July 8, 2022.

The previous government also considered a similar project in Rose-Hill, with a request for proposals launched in February 2024 for its development and operation.
