The Mauritian government has approved six new diplomatic appointments to key international capitals, marking a strategic shift in the country’s foreign relations.

Paris: Joel Rault is appointed ambassador to France. His role is vital given the long-standing bilateral ties covering cooperation in the Indian Ocean, education, culture, climate, maritime security, and the Francophone community.

Pretoria: Mireille Martin becomes High Commissioner to South Africa. Her appointment is important for strengthening relations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC), regional economic development, and migration issues.

New Delhi: Sheila Bappoo, a former minister and experienced politician, is appointed High Commissioner to India. This position provides Mauritius with a major diplomatic platform in a large democracy and longstanding partner for trade and culture.

Islamabad: Munsoo Kurrimbaccus, a trade unionist, is named High Commissioner to Pakistan. His task is to deepen bilateral relations, especially in economic cooperation and South-South partnerships, amid regional changes.

Cairo: Reza Gunny is appointed ambassador to Egypt. This strategic posting at the crossroads of the Arab world and Africa helps Mauritius expand its partnerships with North African countries and regional organizations.

Addis Ababa: Indrajeet Babooa will serve as ambassador to Ethiopia and as Mauritius’ Permanent Representative to the African Union. His role is crucial for engaging with the AU on governance, peace, security, and development issues across Africa.

These appointments reflect Mauritius’ renewed diplomatic focus on strengthening international partnerships, regional development, and multilateral engagement.
