Alleged Overtime Hours Fraud: Metro Express’s IT Manager Suspended
The IT Manager at Metro Express Ltd (MEL) has been suspended amid an internal and police investigation into allegations of fraud. The suspension took place on Friday, July 4, following a raid by law enforcement officials.
Defi Media sources close to the case say tensions are high within MEL’s IT department, with reports of data manipulation also emerging.
According to police information, officers from the Cybercrime and IT Units conducted a search on July 3 at MEL’s landing depot in Richelieu, focusing on the department responsible for IT.
Two staff members, including the IT Manager, are believed to be involved in an attempt to fraudulently alter employee attendance records.
The goal was reportedly to change clock-in and clock-out times so that employees could receive extra pay for overtime hours they did not work.
It is also alleged that money was collected through these falsifications.
An ongoing investigation by the police’s IT Unit is examining the integrity of MEL’s internal attendance system.
At this stage, no financial fraud has been confirmed, according to the Ministry of Land Transport.
The ministry mentioned a leak of confidential employee information but clarified that the inquiry is still in progress.
The investigation was triggered after an anonymous letter was sent to the Financial Crimes Commission, accusing internal misconduct and data manipulation.
MEL confirmed that the IT Manager has been suspended, citing “minor internal issues.”
The company emphasized that management is taking the matter seriously and that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found guilty of data tampering or misconduct.
MEL declined to comment on specific details of the investigation or whether other staff members are involved.
However, reports suggest further questioning of employees may occur in the coming days.
