Widow of Late Renganaden Seeneevassen Dies at 97
Grace Seeneevassen, wife of former politician Renganaden Seeneevassen, died peacefully this Sunday at the age of 97.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Alongside her children — Rajen, Sarojini, and Kriesen — and her granddaughter Cheriza, Grace often shared stories from the past to keep history alive.
She cherished memories of figures like Rozemont, Anquetil, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) – whom she affectionately called Kewal), and her husband Renganaden.
In a recent interview, she described her late husband Renganaden Seeneevassen as a great humanitarian.
She said he was kind, generous, and a role model for all. Despite his short life—he died decades ago—people still speak of him with admiration.
She recalled his wit, integrity, and love of life, especially his passion for music, opera, and sega.
Grace was known for her quiet grace and deep convictions. She rarely spoke publicly but when she did, her words carried weight.

She could have been a Member of Parliament or even a minister, SSR once offered her such a role after Renganaden’s early death, but she declined. Her reason was simple: her children needed her more than a political career.
She recounted this decision with a gentle smile and a hint of melancholy, emphasizing her focus on what truly mattered.
Beyond her role as a politician’s widow, Grace was a cornerstone of the moral legacy of the traditional labour movement.
Her funeral was held Monday, July 7th, at 1:30 p.m. at Belmont Crematorium in Goodlands.
