MCCI Strengthens Ties with Sharjah Chamber: 70+ Global Alliances Boost Business

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) wrapped up its first official trade mission to Mauritius, held from June 30 to July 3. The trip was organized in partnership with Mauritius’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and aimed to strengthen economic and trade relations, promote business connections, and explore new investment opportunities.
Led by SCCI Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, the delegation included First Vice Chairman Shaikh Majid Faisal Khalid Al Qasemi, Board Members Ziyad Mohmoud Khairalla AlHaji and Mohamed Ali Marzook Binkamil, along with other officials and representatives from local companies.
During the visit, the delegation held high-level meetings with Mauritius government officials, including Junior Minister of Finance Dhaneshwar Damry, Minister of Housing and Lands Shakeel Mohamed, Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs Hambirajen Narsinghen, Minister of Industry and SMEs Sayed Muhammad Aadil Ameer Meea, and Minister of Land Transport Mahomed Osman Cassam Mahomed.
Discussions focused on boosting bilateral economic cooperation, public-private partnerships, and joint ventures in sectors like real estate, infrastructure, finance, tourism, and renewable energy.
Both sides also explored opportunities to exchange expertise and share successful practices in economic development, emphasizing their commitment to deepening ties and fostering sustainable growth.
During the meetings, Shakeel Mohamed received an official invitation to be the Guest of Honour at the upcoming Sharjah Real Estate Exhibition, “ACRES,” scheduled for January 2026 at Expo Centre Sharjah.
SCCI Chairman Al Owais highlighted Mauritius as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies and a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia.
He noted that this trade mission is a significant step toward increasing trade and investment flows between Sharjah and Mauritius, especially following the recent implementation of the UAE-Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The agreement, effective earlier this year, offers benefits like customs exemptions and easier trade in sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, tourism, and logistics.
A key feature of the mission was an interactive business forum titled “Deepening Economic Ties,” organized jointly by SCCI and EDB.
The forum attracted business leaders from Mauritius and Sharjah, representing industries like finance, hospitality, real estate, healthcare, and manufacturing.
Dr. Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab presented on “Business and Investment Opportunities in Sharjah,” emphasizing the emirate’s investor-friendly environment, while Mahen Abhimanu Kundasamy from EDB showcased Mauritius’s innovation strategy and sector strengths.
The trade mission also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SCCI and Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
The agreement, signed by Al Owais and MCCI President Charles Harel, aims to foster cooperation in financial services, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and other key sectors.
It also encourages Emirati companies to leverage Mauritius’s strategic location for access to African markets.
The MoU coincided with the 175th anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This partnership assists Mauritius Chamber strengthen ties with Sharjah Chamber and leverage over 70 global alliances.
Since the CEPA agreement came into effect earlier this year, Mauritian exports to the UAE have surged by 221%, opening new paths for collaboration in healthcare, finance, tourism, manufacturing, and investment.
The delegation concluded its visit with a tour of IFFCO Group’s facilities, a major UAE enterprise with a presence in Mauritius, exemplifying successful industrial expansion and investment in global markets.
