Over 2,400 Traffic Fines Issued in Weekend Road Crackdown

During a weekend operation from Friday, June 27, to Monday, June 30, police conducted a large-scale crackdown on road violations across the island. Multiple units participated, including traffic police, Emergency Response Service (ERS), National Coast Guard (NCG), and Criminal Investigation Division.

In total, 15,286 vehicles were stopped and checked, resulting in 2,445 fines for various traffic violations.

The most common infractions included:

  • 103 cases of seatbelt violations
  • 42 instances of illegal parking
  • 38 drivers caught using their phones while driving
  • 21 cases of crossing a continuous white line
  • 18 vehicles with faulty or modified silencers
  • 3 cases of dangerous driving

The Traffic Branch issued 537 tickets, including 55 for not wearing a seatbelt and 21 for using a phone while driving.

The Emergency Response Service, which checked the most vehicles—3,860—issued 721 fines.

Regarding driving under the influence, 41 drivers tested positive for alcohol, and 11 for illegal substances.

The Traffic Branch recorded 24 alcohol-positive cases, while ERS reported 17.

Some regions saw fewer violations; for example, Metro North had only 72 fines, and the NCG issued just four.

Conversely, the Eastern region had 278 violations, and the Western region recorded 187.
