Two elderly sisters were attacked in their home in Triolet on Saturday evening, June 21. Koomunty Mathurasingh, 79, was killed by the assault, while her 83-year-old sister, Gyantee Humawtee Ramnarain, was injured and taken to hospital.

The incident happened while the sisters were sleeping. An attacker entered their house, tied them up, gagged them, and beat them.

Koomunty Mathurasingh was found dead under a mattress, with her hands bound with adhesive tape and raphia, and her mouth covered with a piece of clothing.

Gyantee, who was injured, was admitted to the North Hospital and remains there.

Gyantee told authorities, “They tied my hands, then covered my face and head, and blindfolded me.”

The assault took place behind a shop run by a nephew of the victims. An employee of the shop was reportedly the last person to see them alive.

Their niece, Artee, arrived at the scene after being alerted. She described what she saw: “I went there, the door was open. I found my aunt lying under the mattress, and another person was covering her with a blanket.”
