Mauritius Launches 4 New Support Measures for Local Artists

On June 21, during the celebration of World Music Day, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mahen Gondeea, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s music and arts sector.

In a statement released on June 19, several key initiatives are underway for this year:

  • Establishment of a Single Cultural Platform to simplify administrative procedures for artists and event organizers.
  • Revision of artists’ legal status to improve working conditions and ensure better protection.
  • Upcoming launch of the Arts and Culture Consultative Sessions, a national forum to develop an inclusive cultural policy.
  • Ongoing reform of the Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) to better protect copyright rights and ensure fair compensation for artists.

These measures aim to support and promote local artists and cultural activities across Mauritius.
