A new hope for deaf children in Mauritius. The Minister of Health and Well-being, Anil Kumar Bachoo, visited Vacoas ENT Hospital on Thursday 19th June to review a series of life-changing surgeries. These procedures were carried out with the help of Indian ENT specialist Professor Ravi Ramalingum from KKR ENT Hospital in Chennai, India.

During the visit, Minister Bachoo, accompanied by Mauritian doctors including ENT surgeon Dr. Dinassing, met with the Indian doctor on his humanitarian mission.

The surgeries included 2 main types: stapes surgery, which repairs tiny bones in the ear to improve hearing, and cochlear implants, aimed at children born deaf to help them hear when hearing aids are ineffective.

Minister Bachoo announced that “19 operations have been successfully completed so far, with nearly 100% success rate.”

He also expressed gratitude to the Indian government and Dr. Ramalingum for their support.

This medical partnership goes beyond surgery; it also focuses on training Mauritian healthcare professionals. Dr. Dinassing praised the collaboration, stating:

“Thanks to this effort, deaf children can develop their potential, learn, and hear. Some may even grow up to become doctors, engineers, or teachers.”

This visit also highlighted the importance of international medical cooperation, offering new hope to vulnerable children and demonstrating the positive impact of global medical exchanges.
