Gunness Criticizes Jugnauth’s Overview on 2025/26 Budget & Pension Reforms

Ajay Gunness, the Minister of Infrastructure, responded to criticism from Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth regarding the recent budget. During a press conference on Wednesday, Gunness questioned the credibility of Jugnauth’s comments, asking, “Do you really think people will trust Pravind Jugnauth?”
He explained that the government was fully aware of the difficult choices involved in preparing the budget.
“We knew it would be a tough exercise,” Gunness said.
“But the real question is, who led us into this situation? Why is the government now forced to take unpopular measures? Our priority is the children and the country’s future.”
Gunness spoke at a ceremony, Wednesday 11th June, near the St-Jean cemetery, where he presented measures to reduce flooding.
Regarding the pension reform to raise the retirement age to 65, Gunness acknowledged the controversy.
“We know raising the retirement age will spark debates,” he said. “But sometimes, tough decisions are needed to ensure a sustainable future.”
