Vehicle License Fees Rise to 4,000 Rupees from July 2025

Under the budget plan for 2025/2026, vehicle owners will pay between 200 and 4,000 rupees annually for their license starting July 1, 2025. Mahomed made the announcement during a visit to the Metro Express Ltd dormitories in Richelieu, accompanied by Minister Arvin Boolell on June 10.

Transport Minister Osman Mahomed has explained the recent increase in the Road Motor Vehicle Licence fees, commonly known as the “declaration.”

Minister Osman noted that the last fee hike was in 2011 and said, “Isn’t it time to adjust these rates to maintain quality service?”

To cut long wait times at the NLTA offices in Port Louis, a new branch will open soon in Phoenix.

However, the proposed office at the Victoria Urban Terminal has been canceled due to financial reasons.

Additionally, Mahomed announced that the Richelieu dormitories belonging to Metro Express, which are currently running at a loss, will be put up for rent.
