Turkish Airlines Launches 1st Dreamliner to Mauritius, Connecting 2 Countries
June 9, 2025, marked a significant milestone for air travel between Mauritius and Turkey. At 12:05 p.m., a Turkish Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landed for the first time on the tarmac at SSR Airport, opening a new chapter in connectivity between the two countries.
The state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft, often called the “dream plane,” is known for its fuel efficiency, quiet cabin, and high passenger comfort.
It can carry around 300 passengers, split between economy and business class, where seats convert into beds.
Passengers benefit from LED mood lighting, panoramic windows, advanced entertainment systems, and onboard Wi-Fi.
This technological upgrade strengthens Turkish Airlines’ strategic route. Istanbul, a global hub connecting Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, is now more accessible to Mauritian travelers through this daily direct flight.
Ahmet Tursun, Turkish Airlines’ Regional Director for the Indian Ocean, attended the aircraft’s arrival. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to Mauritius, which has been a strategic destination for ten years.
“We want to continue investing here. Introducing the Dreamliner reflects our goal to constantly enhance the passenger experience,” he said.
Regarding fares, Tursun highlighted Turkish Airlines’ competitive pricing and flexible policies. “We offer excellent value for money,” he stated.
He also reassured travelers about Turkish visa procedures, noting that the e-visa process online is quick and simple for Mauritians.
Avinash Teelock, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), welcomed the new service.
“The arrival of a modern aircraft like the Dreamliner positions Mauritius as a contemporary destination aligned with evolving tourism trends,” he said.
He also pointed out that the direct flight opens new markets, including Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
This new route is also a boost for local tourism businesses. By partnering with Turkish Airlines, travelers now have access to over 300 destinations via Istanbul, one of the world’s busiest and most dynamic hubs.
