Tragedy in Pailles: 18-Month-Old Child Drowns in Pool

A heartbreaking incident occurred Saturday afternoon, 7th June, in a residential neighborhood in Morcellement Sorèze, Pailles. An 18-month-old boy was found dead in his family’s swimming pool after slipping away from his mother’s watchful eye.

According to initial police reports, the tragedy happened around 5 p.m.

The child’s mother, who was inside preparing dinner, became worried when she did not hear her son playing outside.

When she went outside to check, she was horrified to find her son’s body floating face down in the pool.

She quickly pulled him out and, with the help of a maintenance worker present at the scene, rushed him to the nearby Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis.

Despite their efforts, doctors at the hospital confirmed the child’s death upon arrival.

The body was then taken to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.

Authorities are reviewing private CCTV footage that covers the family’s yard, which may help clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Several police units, including investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit, have been dispatched to the scene.

Police are also investigating the possibility that the child’s death may involve criminal activity.
