Budget 2025-26: Special Cabinet Meeting Scheduled for Thursday 5th June

A special cabinet meeting will take place this Thursday, June 5, when government members will be briefed on the main points of the upcoming budget. This meeting, scheduled unusually in the morning, will precede the official presentation of the budget.

Traditionally, the government discusses its economic and social priorities behind closed doors during this meeting before making them public in the National Assembly.

The parliamentary debate on the budget is set to start on Tuesday, June 17.

It is expected to last until the end of June, with a possible extension into early July depending on the pace of discussions.

This period will give opposition and majority members the chance to comment on government choices and examine how funds are allocated among ministries.

The parliamentary schedule is likely to be busy in the coming weeks, amid significant political stakes.

This budget is the first financial plan managed by Navin Ramgoolam since he returned as Prime Minister.

It will also serve as a key test of his ability to meet social expectations while maintaining fiscal stability.
