New Pink Heroin Threatens Mauritius, 40 Grams Seized

Mauritius authorities are warning about a new type of heroin that has recently appeared on the local market. The drug, which is pink in color, was seized by law enforcement officers and is causing alarm.
This pink heroin has been circulating mainly in the southern part of the island since late 2024.
Officials believe it may be linked to several overdose cases, although investigations are ongoing.
On May 20, in Beau Vallon, police arrested a suspect found with 40 grams of this pink powder. The street value of the drug is estimated at Rs 600,000.
The seized samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.
The operation was led by Inspector Ramtohul, with assistance from Sergeants Valsain and Soonucksingh.
Unlike traditional heroin, which is usually white or cream-colored, this version appears as a bright pink powder.
According to anti-drug investigators, this form of heroin may be more pure and could contain fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is highly potent and dangerous.
Authorities are awaiting the FSL’s results to confirm the drug’s exact composition and identify any synthetic additives.
