British Man Missing in Mauritius, Reappears in Prison with 5.75 kg Drugs Charges
In an unusual case, a British man who was reported missing in Mauritius has reappeared — but in prison. Lee Anthony Adams, 40 years old, appeared before the Mahébourg court on Monday, 26th May.
Adams was caught immediately after arriving in Mauritius, carrying 5.75 kilograms of cannabis worth Rs 6.9 million.
His disappearance had caused concern among friends, especially after one friend posted on Facebook earlier this week, saying Adams had gone missing.
The friend had also mentioned that someone else had paid for Adams’ plane ticket from London to Mauritius. The family was worried and anxious.
However, Adams had arrived in Mauritius on Saturday, May 24, 2025. His trip took a troubling turn right after he got off his flight, MK 053.
Customs officers and anti-drug agents were waiting on the tarmac to intercept anyone carrying illegal items.
Adams’ suspicious behavior caught their attention. They closely watched him as he collected his luggage.
When Adams tried to leave the airport, officers surrounded him. His explanations about why he was in Mauritius did not satisfy the investigators.
British Visitor
A search of his luggage revealed he was hiding 5.75 kg of cannabis. Two other people were also arrested in connection with the case.
Under interrogation by police officers Superintendent Ghoora and Assistant Superintendent Goinden, the British visitor admitted to the charges.
He was immediately taken into custody. Following this, investigators, led by Chief Inspector Doss, launched a “controlled delivery” operation, which quickly led to the arrest of two more foreign suspects believed to be involved.
All three suspects appeared in Mahébourg court on Monday, May 26, 2025, facing drug trafficking charges.
The police opposed any bail requests for the accused, and they remain in detention as the investigation continues.
