Rs270 Million La-Vigie Fly-Over Opens, Connecting North & West Regions
The La-Vigie Fly-Over has officially opened, inaugurated by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Gunness. The ceremony was also attended by Tourism Minister Richard Duval, Commerce and Consumer Protection Minister Michaël Sik Yuen, and the new mayor of Curepipe, Dhaneshwar Bissonauth.
Minister Gunness said the fly-over connects the northern, southern, and western regions of the country.
He explained it provides direct access between the North and Beaux-Songes areas. The project costed Rs 270 million.
Originally, the road was planned to end at Cascavelle, but it has now been extended to the Flic-en-Flac cemetery. The project is expected to be completed by August.
Gunness also announced several other road projects aimed at easing traffic in different areas, including Melrose-Dubreuil, Dubreuil-La-Vigie, and Melrose-St Julien d’Hotman.
He mentioned major projects like the M4 highway, which will connect Forbach to Bel-Air, and eventually link Bel-Air to the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the south.
The ministry is planning to create a new road connection between the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa and Tamarina Golf & Spa Boutique Hotel to improve traffic flow.
Additionally, road drainage systems on the A10 at Plaine-Magnien are being upgraded.
Minister Gunness noted that the second phase of the drainage project costs Rs 310 million and will be carried out by the Road Development Authority over 15 months.
The first phase was launched by the National Development Unit, and the final phase will start soon.
He emphasized that the main goal of these projects is to improve safety for residents, especially since Plaine-Magnien has been identified as a flood-prone area.
Local MPs Tony Apollon and Chitraduthsing Lukeeram were also present at the event.
