Winter 2025: Temperatures Drop to 9°C, Winds Reach 90 km/h

The winter of 2025 in Mauritius is expected to be cold, windy, and turbulent, according to weather forecasts. During a press conference on Friday 23rd May, Prithiviraj Booneeady, acting director of the meteorological station, announced that temperatures could fall as low as 9°C on certain nights in the highlands of Mauritius.

In Rodrigues, temperatures may drop to around 13°C, especially during the passage of anticyclones.

During the day, maximum temperatures are expected to reach about 24°C in the central plateau and 29°C along the coast.

Minimum temperatures could go down to 17°C in the highlands and 19°C on the coast.

In Rodrigues, daytime highs will be around 25°C in the hills and 28°C near the sea, with lows dropping to 18°C in the highlands and 20°C on the coast.

Rainfall is expected to stay close to seasonal averages. Mauritius should receive around 600 mm of rain, mainly in the central plateau, east, and south of the island.

Rodrigues is forecasted to get about 490 mm, with most rain falling in the highlands, especially around Mont Limon.

Booneeady also warned that winds will be strong, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. The sea will often be rough to very rough, especially in the south and west of the islands, with dangerous swells.

These weather conditions are driven by the expected passage of anticyclones in the Mascarenes region.
