World Tea Day: 1 Journey, 1 Passion Behind the Cup

Visiting a tea plantation is an experience that leaves no one indifferent and Madvi Murugesan offers just that to her visitors. “It’s an extraordinary experience to see how tea is produced, because you wouldn’t imagine all that goes into it,” she explained passionately.

With her clear explanations and infectious enthusiasm, she guides curious visitors through each stage of tea-making, from fresh leaves to steaming cup.

In the workshop, seasoned worker Rawan Kumar Jugoo demonstrated the process: “We use the previous day’s tea leaves to crush them.”

Further along, in the packaging area, Isabelle Ribet working diligently, preparing around 50 boxes of tea each day.

She smiles as she observes the growing interest from tourists: “I really appreciate when visitors come to see us. It brings us joy.”

Finally, once the tea is ready, it’s Prakash Mungur’s turn. A dedicated driver, he travels the roads to deliver the precious boxes to various points of sale.

From leaf to box, every participant plays a vital role in this remarkable chain of craftsmanship.

This visit uncovers the rich human and artisanal heritage hidden behind a simple cup of tea — a significance highlighted on this World Tea Day, May 21.
