Mauritius to Middle East: 4 Pakistanis Caught in Human Trafficking

Pakistani nationals arriving from Mauritius were arrested last Saturday 17th May at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). They are suspected of being part of a human trafficking network operating between the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.

The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation after four other Pakistanis were detained in Dubai for human trafficking and prostitution.

Those individuals were convicted and repatriated to Pakistan. Using information gathered from this case, authorities identified additional suspects, including the four recently detained in Karachi.

They are now in custody at a specialized unit fighting human trafficking.

The suspects come from different parts of Punjab. Pakistani officials say they worked with smugglers and recruited young victims with false promises of jobs.

Once they arrived at their destination, the victims were trapped and forced into illegal activities, such as online scams.

Some victims sent to Cambodia have been rescued by local authorities and repatriated to Pakistan using emergency passports.

Pakistani authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle the entire trafficking network.

This case, reported by the online news outlet Dawn, highlighted the ongoing challenges of human trafficking in the region.
