Arvind Bundhun, the former director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) on the evening of Tuesday, 13th May.

He now faces a provisional charge of “Using Office for Gratification,” a serious allegation that has sent shockwaves through the corridors of power.

Bundhun was set to appear in court on Wednesday, 14th May, as the investigation into his conduct intensifies.

He stands accused of misusing a MTPA credit card for personal expenses, with the total amount in question estimated to be around Rs 4.9 million.

These expenditures, allegedly incurred between 2018 and 2024, reportedly include lavish purchases at Duty Free shops both in Mauritius and abroad.

On the afternoon of his arrest, Bundhun was interrogated “under warning” by FCC investigators.

Raids Conducted at Arvind Bundhun’s Home

Officers of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) executed a dawn raid at the residence of former Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) Director, Arvind Bundhun, on Wednesday morning, 14th May.

The operation unfolded with relentless precision as investigators arrived at Bundhun’s home, located in an upscale neighbourhood, seeking evidence linked to a burgeoning scandal of financial misconduct.

Prior to the raid, authorities orchestrated a meticulous manoeuvre, retrieving Bundhun from the Moka detention centre where he had been held since his arrest the previous evening.

The former head of the MTPA was swiftly brought to the FCC’s offices in Réduit, where he remained in custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
