Cabinet Announces 7 Key Appointments and Board Reconstitutions

The Cabinet (Council of Ministers) convened on Friday, May 9, and approved several key appointments. Akeelesh Sharma Caussy has been appointed Ombudsperson for Sports, while Louis Sylvain Méyépa has been named Director of the Tourism Authority.

In addition, appointments were made within various agencies: Avinash Kanti Teelock was appointed Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA).

Several boards and councils have also been reconstituted:

  • The National Solidarity Fund Board, now chaired part-time by Poonawadee Iyasawmy-Essoo 
  • The National Road Safety Council, with Zeeshan Haider Rajani serving as part-time chairperson 
  • The Mauritius Qualifications Authority (MQA), with Vijay Sookharee appointed as part-time president 
  • The Private Secondary Education Authority, where Deenesh Patpur assumes the role of part-time chairman

Finally, the Cabinet noted the composition of the Medical Council of Mauritius for the 2025-2028 term.
