Heavy Rain Warning in Effect Until 4 AM on Saturday, 10th May 2025

As the dawn breaks over Mauritius, a stark warning looms: a heavy rain alert is in place until the early hours of Saturday, 10th May 2025. The Vacoas Meteorological Station has issued a bulletin on 9th May, cautioning that atmospheric conditions remain precariously unstable across the region. Active clouds, drifting in from the East, are set to progressively influence the weather, heralding a tumultuous day ahead.
Forecast for the Next 24 Hours:
The skies are partially overcast, but as the day unfolds, they will darken further, giving way to sporadic showers that may range from moderate to locally intense, accompanied by the rumble of thunder.
Pockets of fog are also anticipated in certain areas, significantly reducing visibility and adding to the trepidation of the day.
As night descends, the forecast remains grim, with moderate to heavy showers, potentially thunderous, expected to persist.
- Maximum Temperatures: A range of 24 to 26°C is anticipated on the central plateau, while coastal regions may experience warmer conditions, between 28 and 31°C.
- Minimum Temperatures: Expect cooler nights with temperatures dipping to between 19 and 21°C in the highlands, and a balmy 23 to 25°C along the shoreline.
The winds will blow from the east at a speed of 10 to 20 km/h, with gusts that could reach a formidable 50 km/h during the downpours.
The sea will remain turbulent beyond the reefs, with waves surging to approximately 2.5 metres, rendering any ventures into open waters ill-advised.
In light of the impending heavy thunderstorms, authorities urge the public to heed the following precautions:
- Remain sheltered and avoid low-lying areas, hiking trails, and maritime activities; do not seek refuge under trees.
- Steer clear of regions prone to water accumulation.
- Exercise extreme caution on the roads, as visibility will be severely compromised by rain and fog.
As the clouds gather and the winds howl, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prioritise safety in the face of nature’s fury.
