Molnupiravir Inquiry, Chuttoo’s Rs34 Million Legal Trouble at FCC

In a significant turn of circumstances, Jaykumar Chuttoo, the managing director of CPN Distributors, was apprehended on Wednesday 7th May evening by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). He stands accused of money laundering in connection with the controversial procurement of the antiviral drug Molnupiravir.
Scrutiny Background
The saga began in 2021 when the erstwhile Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) launched an investigation into the contentious acquisition of one million tablets of Molnupiravir during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Allegations of price inflation surrounding the drug had surfaced, casting a shadow over the transaction.
Summons and Legal Representation
Summoned urgently by the FCC, Chuttoo arrived at the commission’s offices accompanied by his legal counsel.
Investigators are particularly focused on a staggering sum of approximately 34 million rupees found in his bank account, believed to be linked to this dubious pharmaceutical deal.
Court Appearance
This Thursday 8th May morning, Chuttoo is set to appear before the Port-Louis court, facing preliminary charges of money laundering.
The unfolding drama raises pressing questions about accountability and transparency in the procurement processes during a global health crisis.
