In a favorable development for Mauritius, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the United Arab Emirates officially came into force on 1st April 2025. This landmark agreement heralds a significant leap forward in the economic and commercial ties binding the two nations.

Under the auspices of this accord, Mauritian exporters are granted preferential access to the Emirati market, with an immediate duty-free entry for a staggering 6,700 products.

Furthermore, additional products are set to join this list, enjoying similar exemptions within a span of three to five years.

In a reciprocal gesture, the UAE will gain enhanced access to the Mauritian market for approximately 250 products, fostering a spirit of mutual benefit.

However, the CEPA transcends mere trade in goods; it is a comprehensive framework that encompasses investments and digital commerce, among other sectors.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a press release issued this week, highlighted that over 100 sub-sectors of services have now been liberalised, thereby opening up new vistas for Mauritian service providers, professionals, small and medium-sized enterprises, and investors alike.

Moreover, this agreement lays the groundwork for deeper economic cooperation in pivotal sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, renewable energy, and information and communication technologies.

As Mauritius embarks on this promising journey, the potential for growth and collaboration with the UAE appears boundless, marking a new chapter in the annals of both nations’ economic histories.
