Sattar Hajee Abdoula’s Astonishing Rs287.2 Million Fees Exposed!
In an shocking revelation during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, 6th May, the Prime Minister disclosed that Sattar Hajee Abdoula, a pivotal figure within the Grant Thornton cabinet, has amassed an astonishing Rs 287.2 million from public entities between 2015 and November 2024. This staggering sum has been received either directly or through companies in which he holds a vested interest.
Despite not holding the position of president or serving as a board member of any public organisations during this period, Abdoula’s influence is undeniable.
He presided over the board of SBM Holdings from 2020 to 2024, during which time he pocketed Rs 37.3 million in fees.
Furthermore, his involvement in providing insolvency services to MauBank for 13 companies has yielded over Rs 21 million.
Abdoula’s entanglements extend to his administration of Air Mauritius, which has seen him receive Rs 141 million, and Airmate Ltd, where he garnered an additional Rs 5 million.
His participation in the inquiry into Britam, for which he was compensated Rs 2.2 million, raises serious questions regarding potential conflicts of interest.
In total, a staggering Rs 79.6 million has been disbursed to Grant Thornton by public bodies, with SBM contributing Rs 28 million alone.
“When compiling all these amounts, between 2015 and 2024, an astronomical sum of Rs 287.2 million has been paid to Mr Sattar Hajee Abdoula and entities in which he has a direct interest,” emphasised Navin Ramgoolam, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
In light of these revelations, an investigation has been announced to shed light on these payments and the potential malfeasance surrounding them.
