Municipal Elections 2025: Alliance of Change Triumphs 117-3 Victory

The electorate has once again placed their trust in the Alliance of Change. Just six months after their resounding triumph in the legislative elections, where they achieved an unprecedented score of 60 to 0, the coalition comprising the Labour Party, the Militant Socialist Movement, the Reform Party, and the National Democratic Alliance has once again shone brightly in the municipal elections held on Sunday, 4th May.

This remarkable feat was accomplished despite a significant voter abstention.
Detailed Results
The Alliance of Change has secured an impressive 117 municipal council seats across the 5 cities of the island: Port-Louis, Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, Vacoas/Phoenix, Curepipe, and Quatre-Bornes.
The remaining 3 seats were claimed by:
-Patrick Belcourt of En Avant Moris in Ward 2 of Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill
-Independent candidate Ajay Teerbhoohan in Ward 8 of Port-Louis
-Ashwin Dookun from the Reform Party in Ward 3 of Vacoas/Phoenix
Same Day Counting
In a historic first, the counting of ballots took place on the very day of voting, a move that has been met with both intrigue and scrutiny.
However, the turnout was dishearteningly low, with only 26.27% of registered voters participating.
Out of 400,887 eligible voters, a mere 105,315 made their way to the polling stations.
The competition was fierce, with no fewer than 404 candidates vying for positions in these municipal elections.
