Changing the Guard: Kevin Gutty Appointed CEO of MFDC

The Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC) has officially announced the appointment of Kevin Gutty as its Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday, 5th May. Operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, the MFDC is tasked with the vital mission of revitalising the creative industry, particularly through initiatives related to cinema.

“I am filled with immense joy and gratitude,” expressed the 40-year-old Gutty, who extended his heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam and Mahen Gondeea, the Minister of Arts and Culture.

He acknowledged that while assuming the role of CEO is a privilege, it also comes with significant responsibilities.

“The film industry has been virtually non-existent in recent years. With the new board of directors, our mission is to reinvigorate and restructure this sector,” he asserted.

MFDC Overhaul

Gutty plans to commence his tenure with a comprehensive assessment of the MFDC, aiming to analyse its various dimensions and implement a range of projects.

A well-known figure in the audiovisual landscape, he has produced and directed numerous television programmes, including the popular Fer Gouté TV Show.

Throughout his career, Gutty has consistently sought to showcase local culture in all its forms.

He holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA), a Postgraduate Certificate in Storytelling from the University of Michigan in the United States, and a degree in journalism.

In addition to his new role, Gutty is also dedicated to the communication strategy of one of the island’s leading political parties.

The chairperson of the MFDC board is Arvind Mattadeen, with the new board also comprising Doorgesh Mungur, Ashwen Naidu, and Manish Soonucksing.
