Municipal Elections: Nurseries & Tertiary Institutions Remain Open on 5th May

On Monday, 5th May 2025, nurseries and higher education institutions will operate as usual, despite the recent announcement made during the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, 25th April.

This meeting revealed that the day following the municipal elections, scheduled for Sunday, 4th May 2025, has been designated as a “No School Day” on 5th May, effectively making it a day without classes.

However, the Polytechnics Mauritius centres, along with both public and private higher education establishments, will remain fully operational on 5th May.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Research has accordingly taken the step of informing same to the public.

This decision is underpinned by the fact that these institutions will not serve as polling stations for the municipal elections, and thus, academic staff will not be requisitioned for electoral duties.
