Mauritius Under an Anticyclone Influence Triggering 2.5 Metre Waves

Mauritius finds itself under the watchful gaze of an anticyclone, with clouds drifting in from the trade winds, a phenomenon linked to the anticyclone situated to the south-southeast of the Mascarenes. As reported by the meteorological station in its bulletin issued on Friday, 2nd May, the skies above the island are partially obscured this morning, with the eastern, southern, and central plateau regions experiencing intermittent cloudiness and the threat of showers.

Throughout the day, temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius on the central plateau, while coastal areas will bask in slightly warmer conditions, ranging from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius.

As night falls, the minimum temperatures will dip to between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius on the plateau, and a balmy 23 to 25 degrees Celsius along the coastline.

The winds will blow from the east-southeast at approximately 25 km/h, with gusts that could reach a formidable 50 km/h.

The sea, will be restless too, with strong swells beyond the reefs, producing waves of around 2.5 metres.

In light of these conditions, venturing out to sea, particularly in the southern lagoons, is strongly discouraged.
